EU approve €7 billion to Greece
The European Union has approved a seven-billion euro short-term loan to Greece, which is desperately needed for Athens to cover its imminent debts. European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis announced the decision following a meeting in Brussels. Greece needs to pay four-point-two billion euros to the European Central Bank on Monday. Earlier in the day, German lawmakers gave the federal government the green light to go ahead with negotiations on Greece’s 86 billion euros bailout deal. Germany is the main creditor of Greece and its approval was needed for the much-debated bailout deal to go ahead. Police in Berlin arrested a number of protesters who gathered outside the parliament in solidarity with the anti-austerity movement in Greece.
