A business jet has crashed in a residential area of Greenacres, Florida, triggering a massive fireball and scattering debris across a roadway in the southern United States.
Authorities have confirmed multiple fatalities, although it remains unclear whether anyone on the ground was killed.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the Learjet 60, carrying nine people, crashed at around 12:50 p.m. on Sunday while en route from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas.
Footage circulating on social media shows a fiery crater in the road, with debris scattered across the crash site. Preliminary reports indicate the aircraft may have struck a tree and brought down power lines before crashing into the residential area.
The incident occurred along Military Trail, between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue has described the incident as an extended emergency response. Authorities have yet to release further details about the victims or the circumstances surrounding the crash.
All northbound and southbound lanes of Military Trail remain closed until further notice, with motorists advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
The National Transportation Safety Board is expected to lead the investigation, with the FAA confirming that investigators will examine the circumstances of the crash.
