A Lebanese orchard owner has been killed in a landmine explosion as Israeli artillery attacks continue across southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese citizen was killed by a landmine explosion while inspecting his olive grove in Froun.
Local authorities in Froun and Yater warned residents against entering olive groves because of the danger posed by cluster munitions and landmines left behind by Israeli forces.
Another Lebanese citizen was also killed after being directly targeted by Israeli forces in Yater, Lebanon’s Al-Nashra news outlet reported.
Al-Nashra also reported that Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of Yater and areas surrounding Beit Lif and Srebbine.
According to Lebanon’s Al-Manar television, Israeli forces carried out attacks on several areas in southern Lebanon. The outlet reported Israeli military movements on the outskirts of the town of Baraachit, artillery shelling of the town, and tank movements near Kfar Shuba.
Israeli artillery also shelled Wadi Salouqi, Wadi Zibqin, Mansouri, Kfar Shuba and Haris between the previous night and 7 a.m. local time.
The Lebanese outlet further reported Israeli military movements and attacks around Srebbine and Zawtar al-Sharqiya. Israeli troops also advanced from Ruwaisat al-Alam and deployed in the Shmeis area on the outskirts of Kfar Shuba. Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that an Israeli soldier had been wounded in an operational incident in southern Lebanon, adding that an investigation was underway.
Israeli sources were quoted as saying that the soldier, a member of the military’s 188th Armored Brigade, was wounded in a tank ammunition explosion during an attack on the Beaufort sector of southern Lebanon.
Israeli occupation forces have persisted with incursions into southern Lebanon, accompanied by the demolition of buildings, destruction of infrastructure, bulldozing operations, and attacks involving warplanes, drones, and artillery.
The strikes occur despite a US-sponsored framework agreement between the Beirut government and the Tel Aviv regime that was signed on June 26.
The agreement outlines a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory in return for the deployment of the Lebanese army.
The secretary-general of the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, Sheikh Naim Qassem, has dismissed the agreement as illegitimate, unlawful, and humiliating.
Hezbollah launched military operations against Israel on March 2 in response to the US-Israeli aggression against Iran, repeated Israeli violations of the 2024 ceasefire, and Israel’s continued occupation of Lebanese territory in the south.
Since then, despite months of negotiations, Israel has continued its military offensive against Lebanon and has killed 4,386 people and wounded 12,413 others, and displaced more than 1 million, according to Lebanese authorities.
Israel continues to occupy parts of southern Lebanon, which includes areas it has usurped for decades alongside regions taken during the 2023-2024 war. Moreover, its troops have advanced beyond 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory in the course of the current offensive.
