Israeli forces physically attack shepherd, run over his sheep in Syria
Israeli forces have physically attacked a shepherd and ran over several of his sheep, during a raid on the countryside of Quneitra in southern Syria.
Syria’s news agency SANA reported that an Israeli force “assaulted a shepherd during its incursion between al-Asha village and al-Rafid town in the southern Quneitra countryside” on Thursday.
“The force beat the shepherd and ran over several of his sheep, killing them, before withdrawing from the area,” it added.
According to the report, Israeli forces also kidnapped a civilian while he was herding sheep west of al-Rafid town on Tuesday. The man was freed the following day.
Quneitra province, which borders Syria’s occupied Golan Heights, has witnessed repeated Israeli incursions involving searches of homes and vehicles and the establishment of temporary military checkpoints.
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024, Israel has expanded its military occupation deeper into Syrian territory, including Jabal al-Sheikh, which Zionists call Mount Hermon.
Under Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, a former deputy of Daesh and al-Qaeda, Israeli troops have regularly invaded Syrian territory and harassed local residents, with his administration taking no action in response.
Western powers, meanwhile, have embraced Jolani for his deference to Israel—propping him up despite his inaction—effectively suppressing any resistance inside Syria to the Israeli occupation and allowing Israel to pursue its colonial designs in Syria and the wider region.
Israel occupied the Golan Heights in the closing stages of its 1967 Six-Day War on Arab countries, which also saw the regime occupy the Palestinian territories of the West Bank, East al-Quds, and the Gaza Strip.
Tel Aviv unilaterally annexed the Golan Heights in 1981 in a move not recognized by the international community.
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024, the Israeli regime stretched Israel's military occupation way inside Syrian territory.
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared the Golan Heights part of the Israeli entity, remarks that have drawn widespread condemnation.
The global community sees the illegal Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights by the Israeli forces as a violation of the 1974 ceasefire agreement with Syria and as taking advantage of the chaos in the war-torn nation to seize its territory.
