Israeli court sentences man to over 13 years in prison for allegedly spying for Iran: Report
An Israeli court has sentenced a resident of Petah Tikva city to 13 and a half years in prison for allegedly carrying out security-related tasks for an Iranian operative, according to media reports.
According to Israel’s Channel 7, the Central District Court in the city of Lod handed down the sentence to Alexander Granovsky on Wednesday, describing it as the toughest punishment imposed so far in a case of its kind.
Arrested in 2024, Granovsky was convicted of allegedly carrying out security-related tasks for an Iranian operative.
According to the report, he was tasked with photographing power generation facilities as well as the neighborhood where Israeli opposition politician Benny Gantz resides and forwarded the images to his handler.
Prosecutors also convicted Granovsky of torching nine vehicles and spraying graffiti.
Israeli authorities said Granovsky had expressed willingness to take on further assignments, although he told investigators he would do anything “except killing.”
In June 2025, Israel, joined by the United States, launched the first round of aggression against Iran, striking three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The war, which lasted for 12 days, was met with Iran's decisive military response.
The US and Israel again launched another unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on February 28.
Iran has arrested operatives working for foreign intelligence agents, including Israel's Mossad, for sharing sensitive information in the course of the war.
