Israeli forces raid village in southern Syria, search homes
Israeli forces have stormed into a village in Syria’s southern Quneitra province, searching several homes in yet another breach of the Arab country’s sovereignty.
The television news channel al-Ikhbariyah Syria reported that the occupation troops entered al-Rafid on Saturday night, without providing information on whether the raid resulted in any arrests.
Areas in southern Syria have witnessed repeated Israeli strikes and ground incursions following the collapse of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024.
Israel has also set up numerous checkpoints in Syria and abducted its citizens. The usurping entity has further expanded control over the occupied Golan Heights, taking over a demilitarized buffer zone in violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
The UN and various Arab countries have censured Israel for exploiting the disorder in Syria to acquire land.
Despite promises by Syria’s ruling Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) regime to collaborate with Tel Aviv, Israel has consistently refused to end its illegal occupation of Syrian territory and repeated attacks.
Earlier this week, Israeli Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli openly threatened a war against Syria.
“Syria is Gaza on steroids, and that is the next war, with absolute certainty,” he said. “There is no avoiding it.”
In June, Chikli warned that Israel would wage war on Syria “sooner or later,” saying Syria and Turkey posed a greater challenge to the occupying regime than Iran.
