Palestinian resistance hails Iran tying Hormuz reopening to Gaza, Lebanon

The Palestinian Resistance Committees have welcomed a call by Mohsen Rezaei, the newly appointed secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), to end the wars engulfing the region.

In a statement on Thursday, the Palestinian resistance group hailed the call as a reaffirmation of Tehran’s unwavering support for Palestine and Lebanon and its opposition to the US-Israeli campaign of aggression.

Rezaei’s call for an end to the wars in Lebanon and the besieged Gaza Strip reflects Iran’s steadfast commitment to the region’s oppressed peoples and its continued opposition to Israeli aggression, it said.

The committees said ending Israel’s attacks on Palestine and Lebanon serves the interests of the peoples of the region and is essential to restoring security and stability.

They warned that the continuation of Israel’s military aggression would only deepen regional instability, weaken countries across the region and draw more states into a destructive cycle of war.

The group also called on governments, civil society organizations, student and professional unions, and freedom-seeking forces worldwide to act against the US-backed Israeli campaign of attacks, forced displacement, blockade and starvation in Gaza.

The committees said the international community’s continued silence and failure to halt Israel’s aggression have effectively provided the regime with political cover to continue its crimes against Palestinians.

The group urged the international community to take immediate action to stop the crimes against the Palestinian people and other peoples across the region.

Rezaei’s call comes as Iran continues to confront the broader US-Israeli aggression in the region, including the wars against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples.

Iran has repeatedly stressed that an end to Israel’s war on Lebanon and its genocidal campaign in Gaza is an “inseparable” component of any agreement with Washington aimed at permanently ending the US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic.

In a recent message concerning the Strait of Hormuz, Rezaei said Iran would not reopen the strategic waterway until the United States ends the war and blockade, releases Iran’s frozen assets and agrees to a region-wide ceasefire, “including in Lebanon and Gaza.”

“Until all conditions are met, the Strait will remain closed,” Rezaei said.

The Palestinian Resistance Committees said the continuation of Israeli aggression would serve neither the interests of the region nor its peoples, while calling for international action to end the attacks and establish security and stability across the region.

The United States and Israel launched a fresh round of aerial aggression against Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to respond with waves of missile and drone strikes against the Israeli-occupied territories as well as US military bases and interests across the region.

Tehran has repeatedly made clear that any agreement with Washington must guarantee an end to the war on all fronts and provide for the lifting of the illegal naval blockade and sanctions imposed on Iran.
