Iran Army official: True military strength lies in serving Arbaeen pilgrims
An Iranian Army official says true military strength of the armed forces is demonstrated not only on the battlefield but also through serving the millions of pilgrims participating in the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage.
Hassan Aboutorabi, an Iranian Army Public Relations official, made the remark in a note marking the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon them).
He said the Iranian armed forces stand at the country’s borders to ensure the nation’s security and tranquility while during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, they also stand ready to serve pilgrims making their way on a spiritual journey to the holy shrines in Iraq with peace of mind.
“The weapon in the hands of the armed forces is a symbol of strength, and serving [pilgrims] along the Arbaeen path is a manifestation of that strength.”
He said the Army members serve in the geographical borders where every step conveys a clear message to the world that foreign adversaries cannot reach the country’s territory.
The Army forces are also safeguarding spiritual frontiers, Aboutorabi said.
At a time when the Army's service centers have been set up in various locations to serve Arbaeen pilgrims, “military discipline is combined with human generosity," he added.
He said that beyond hospitality to pilgrims, the Army service stations along the Arbaeen path represent a “showcase of military humanity.”
“These centers prove to the world that the Army’s strength is not limited to weapons, but also stems from the pure intentions that beat in the hearts of its soldiers,” the official emphasized.
Every year, millions of pilgrims from across the world converge on Iraq to commemorate Arbaeen, walking on foot from the holy Iraqi city of Najaf to Karbala to renew their sacrosanct pledge to the principles embodied by the martyrs of Karbala more than fourteen centuries ago.
More than 21 million people from across the world attended last year's event.
