Lebanon army says Israeli attacks obstruct deployment under ceasefire deal
Lebanon's army has denounced the Israeli regime's continued aggression in the country's south, saying the attacks are preventing the military from fully deploying under a US-sponsored framework agreement reached last month.
In a statement on Sunday, the Lebanese army said Israeli occupation forces continue to violate the ceasefire understandings and international law through the systematic destruction of homes, bulldozing operations, bombardment and gunfire across several areas in southern Lebanon.
"The continuation of these attacks obstructs the army's full deployment according to current agreements and prevents the return of residents to their villages and towns," the statement said.
The army also said Israeli troops continue opening fire near Lebanese military positions in Kfar Tibnit, Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Zawtar al-Gharbiya, warning that the attacks are hindering its mission to stabilize the south.
During a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House earlier this week, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reiterated Beirut's demand for the complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Lebanese territory.
Aoun said full implementation of the ceasefire agreement remains impossible while Israeli violations persist.
The US-mediated framework agreement, signed on June 26, calls for a phased withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from southern Lebanon alongside the deployment of the Lebanese army. Since its signing, however, Israel has continued its military aggression across southern Lebanon, carrying out airstrikes, demolitions and the burning of homes in border towns.
According to official Lebanese figures, Israeli attacks have killed at least 4,330 people, injured more than 12,000 others and displaced over one million since March 2. Israeli occupation forces also continue to hold parts of southern Lebanon despite the agreement.
