Iran prepared for every scenario; US talk of diplomacy should be viewed with skepticism: Official

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says Iran’s Armed Forces are fully prepared for every scenario, including a potential American ground attack.

Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks to India's Republic TV on Wednesday, asserting, "Whenever the Americans talk about diplomacy, everyone should view it with skepticism."

The official was referring to the United States' history of invariably betraying its diplomatic engagements with the Islamic Republic.

These include its withdrawal from a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and others, Washington's joining the Israeli regime in a 12-day war on the Islamic Republic last June amid talks with Tehran, and its repeating the latter course of action on February 28.

Baghaei called the US's underway attacks against the Iranian soil "barbaric."

He addressed American officials' claims of being engaged in indirect talks with Iranian authorities, asserting, "At present, there are absolutely no negotiations taking place between Iran and the United States."

"But one thing is clear: The messages we have received through mediators reflect their maximalist and unreasonable demands," the spokesman said.

Various reports have pointed to Washington's having repeated its previous demands from Tehran, including its abandonment of its peaceful nuclear energy activities and extreme curtailment of its missile defense program.

"That is why Iranians view these messages with deep suspicion. What we are doing now is ensuring that nothing distracts us from the sacred duty of defending our land and sovereignty,” Baghaei said.

Shortly after the onset of the latest bout of unprovoked American-Israeli aggression towards Iran, the Islamic Republic's Armed Forces launched their ongoing retaliatory Operation True Promise 4.

As part of the reprisal, the forces have staged at least 89 waves of successful heavy counterstrikes against sensitive and strategic American and Israeli targets across the region.
