Iran dismantles terrorist cell: Ringleader killed, 11 members arrested

Iranian security and intelligence forces have killed a ringleader and nearly a dozen members of a Takfiri terrorist cell in a series of coordinated operations in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, officials say.

General Directorate of Intelligence in Sistan and Baluchestan province announced in a statement that 11 members of a Takfiri terrorist group known as “Ansar al-Shaytan” have been arrested in recent security operations, Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the arrests were made during three joint operations carried out by the Quds Base of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force, the provincial Intelligence Directorate of Sistan and Baluchestan, and police forces.

It added that one of the group’s operational ringleaders was also killed during an armed clashes with security forces.

The terrorists had reportedly been planning to carry out attacks in the province and were hiding in the outskirts of the provincial capital, Zahedan, before being identified and confronted by security forces.

A cache of weapons and explosive-related equipment was also seized from the terrorists’ hideouts, including one RPG launcher, 24 RPG rounds, two AK-47 assault rifles with corresponding ammunition, six handguns, as well as quantities of munitions and equipment used in the manufacture of bombs.
