Iran says new US National Security Strategy is effectively written for Israel

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman says a new US National Security Strategy (NSS) outlining Washington’s principles and priorities for foreign policy is essentially a security document for the Israeli regime.

Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks during a press conference on Sunday, two days after the administration of US President Donald Trump unveiled the 2025 NSS.

Baghaei said the NSS laid bare the very aims that successive US administrations have long sought under the guise of human rights and democracy.

The 33-page document said West Asia is no longer Washington’s top strategic priority, describing the region’s energy reserves as the “historic reason” for America’s focus there.

Baghaei also noted that ensuring the United States’ access to the region’s energy resources and guaranteeing the security of the Zionist regime are the two fundamental issues mentioned in the document with respect to West Asia.

“In essence, the content of the document reveals that the United States assumes the role of judge over all countries, a role that no party in today’s world accepts,” he added.

“Moreover, the complete omission of any reference to Palestinian rights underscores that the document, more than being a US National Security Strategy, constitutes– at least in relation to West Asia– the national security strategy of the Zionist regime."

The spokesman further said that the US is entirely focused on enabling Israel’s dominance in the region, thereby rendering itself complicit in the ongoing crimes committed by the occupying entity.

‘No exclusive Iran-US contacts channel’

Additionally, in his comments, Baghaei emphasized that no exclusive communication channel exists between Iran and the United States.

The designated official channel of communication in Iran is the US Interests Section represented by the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, he noted. The formal channel for contacts in Washington is the Interests Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Meanwhile, he said, it is customary for various states or officials, whether regional or beyond, to transmit messages between Tehran and Washington.

‘US has long history of meddling in Iran’s affairs’

Elsewhere, Baghaei was asked about recent remarks by US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack, who said Washington attempted twice in the past to overthrow the Iranian government but achieved nothing.

He said over the past five decades, successive US administrations have consistently sought to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs.

He added that what the Americans themselves refer to as “regime change” is actually an explicit acknowledgment of their illegal attempts to violate Iran’s national sovereignty.

“What this American official has recently said, in my view, amounts merely to an admission of two attempts. Yet we know that over the years, there have been numerous actions aimed at harming the Iranian people and interfering in Iran’s internal affairs, … with the 1953 coup being a very clear example,” he pointed out.

“Therefore, these actions have not been limited to the past five decades. The US interference in Iran’s domestic affairs has a very long history."

Moreover, Baghaei pointed to Iran-Egypt bilateral relations, saying the two countries have agreed to plan and hold a new round of political consultations as soon as possible.

He also said the US, as a co-host of the 2026 FIFA men’s World Cup, is obliged to provide the necessary conditions for the participation of all teams, coaches, and delegations in the tournament.

Elsewhere, Baghaei warned that Iran will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty or territorial integrity and has repeatedly cautioned regional states and neighbors against the Zionist regime’s exploitation of their airspace.

He also highlighted that Hezbollah and similar groups are “liberation movements,” which are engaged in a legitimate and lawful struggle to defend the right to self-determination and resistance against occupation, saying US designations against such groups lack any foundation or legitimacy.

Asked about US sanctions against Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory, Baghaei said such restrictive measures serve no purpose other than silencing any voice that supports the oppressed people of Palestine and opposes genocide.
