A team from the University of Tehran has won the prestigious first prize in the Honors Award section of the 2025 World Landscape Architecture Awards, beating 161 university teams from 30 countries in a first for teams from West Asia.

The winning project, titled "Symbiotic Landscapes: When Ecology Meets Fire," focused on the planning and redesign of the metropolitan forests of California, US, which were devastated by wildfires in January 2025.

The interdisciplinary Iranian team included Reza Farhadi, Maryam Norouzi, Amir Rahsaz, Hengameh Ghasemi, and Mahshid Delavar, with specializations spanning urban planning, environmental design, and landscape planning.

The team was guided by faculty members Hossein Mansourian and Keramatollah Ziyari from the University of Tehran’s Faculty of Geography, along with international collaborative advisor Alexandra Dolich from the University of British Columbia in Canada.

The jury commended the University of Tehran’s entry for its innovative, universal, and avant-garde strategies, as well as its strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration.

This latest achievement continues a successful trend for the University of Tehran’s architecture and planning departments.

The team previously secured first place and the Award of Excellence in the 2024 American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Global Olympics and second place in the 2023 International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) World Design Competition.
