Several hundred demonstrators gathered outside the Serbian Parliament in Belgrade on Sunday, as pro- and anti-government groups staged rival rallies under heavy police presence.
Footage from the scene shows demonstrators chanting and waving Serbian flags, while riot police stood between the opposing crowds in the capital's city centre.
The anti-government rally was sparked in solidarity with the mother of a victim of last year's Novi Sad train station canopy collapse. Marking the tragedy's first anniversary, she began a hunger strike on Saturday, demanding snap elections.
Later in the evening, a large crowd gathered at the same location to stage a counter-protest in support of the government.
The Novi Sad canopy collapse triggered months of unrest across the country, with rallies demanding early elections, electoral reform and the dissolution of parliament. The demonstrations have grown into one of Serbia's most significant civic movements.
President Aleksandar Vucic has since offered to open talks with the 'student blockade movement' and invited its representatives to a public debate.
Thirteen people have been charged over the collapse, but the victims' families claim that justice has been slow and corruption remains widespread.
