The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has filed a criminal complaint in Germany against a German-Israeli soldier over war crimes committed against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
HRF stated on Friday that the rights group filed the criminal complaint against Shimon Zuckerman for “war crimes and crimes against humanity based on verified evidence related to his role in the destruction of the village of Khuza’a in Gaza.”
The Hind Rajab Foundation, named after a young Palestinian girl murdered by Israeli forces in Gaza, identifies Israeli war criminals and takes legal action against them, whom it finds through social media postings showing them committing war crimes and then boasting about them online.
“On his Instagram account, he shared extensive footage and images from the battlefield – not only of his presence and actions in combat zones, but specifically of the destruction of Palestinian civilian infrastructure,” the foundation said in a statement.
“The complaint identifies Zuckerman visually in multiple videos and posts as he detonates or celebrates demolitions of residential buildings. The posts often include graphic scenes of destruction, paired with celebratory gestures such as smoking shisha, cheering with fellow soldiers, or posing for the camera before and after explosions.”
The Hind Rajab Foundation said it had found the recorded video footage published online showing Zuckerman taking part in the demolition of the town of Khuza’a as the most “egregious” of Zuckerman's crimes.
“The complaint also cites independent investigative journalism by platforms including Bellingcat and The Washington Post, which have verified the identities, locations, and operations of Zuckerman and his unit.”
In its complaint, the Hind Rajab Foundation is requesting the court to conduct a formal investigation, an issuance of an arrest warrant, and Zuckerman’s pre-trial detention.
