Violent clashes erupted in Bogota on Friday as protesters, some identified as indigenous, confronted police near the US embassy.
Demonstrators threw fireworks, explosives, and arrows, resulting in injuries to four police officers, according to Bogota Mayor Carlos Fernando Galan.
He condemned the "criminal" actions, stating that a group of masked individuals attacked police with explosive and incendiary devices, as well as bows and arrows. Authorities used water cannon trucks to disperse the crowds.
The confrontations took place amid broader protests by the Congress of the Peoples, an organization representing indigenous and peasant communities, who had arrived in the capital for demonstrations.
