Iranian President Pezeshkian says Tehran can overcome any re-imposition of sanctions and will never surrender to excessive demands.
Pezeshkian made the remarks on Saturday in an address to a ceremony honoring medalists from the 2025 international science Olympiads, after the United Nations Security Council voted against a draft resolution that would have permanently lifted sanctions linked to Iran’s nuclear program.
On Friday, the 15-member Security Council opted not to permanently lift sanctions on Tehran, after the E3 group of Britain, France, and Germany launched a 30-day process last month to re-impose them, accusing Tehran of failing to abide by the 2015 deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Iran rejected the illegitimate move by the European troika, given the US’s unilateral withdrawal from the JCPOA and the trio’s alignment with unlawful sanctions against Iran instead of fulfilling their own commitments.
“We should believe that we can overcome obstacles and that the ill-wishers of this territory cannot block our way,” Pezeshkian said.
“It is totally impossible to stop those who possess the will, determination, and ability to advance. We have never bowed and will never bow to excessive demands because we have the power to bring about change,” he added.
The president emphasized that the enemy may be able to bombard Iran’s scientific achievements, “but it is our specialists and scientists who have built these facilities, and they are the true wealth and assets of the country."
He said the West cannot block Iran’s path towards progress.
“They can strike our Natanz and Fordow, but they are unaware that it is humans who built and will rebuild Natanz and things more important than Natanz,” Pezeshkian said, referring to the US attack on three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on June 22.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on Friday that the recent agreement reached in the Egyptian capital of Cairo between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency will be terminated if the UN sanctions are reinstated under the so-called snapback mechanism.
