Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day on August 14 which marks the nation's freedom from British colonial rule in 19-47.
The partition of British India led to the creation of Pakistan as a homeland for Muslims, though it came at the cost of mass displacement and communal violence. For Pakistanis, this day symbolizes their right to self-determination and the sacrifices made to achieve that goal.
As Pakistan commemorates this milestone, many citizens draw parallels with the Palestinians’ struggle in Gaza.
