Iran’s wushu warriors wrapped up their campaign at the World Games in the Chinese city of Chengdu in dazzling fashion, with Yasaman Bagherzadeh stealing the spotlight and clinching a brilliant gold in the women’s 70kg sanda division.
Bagherzadeh, already a force on the Asian and world stage, tore through her early opponents from Brazil and Bermuda before facing the host nation’s powerhouse in the final.
With precision strikes and relentless spirit, she toppled the Chinese favorite to claim the top of the podium.
In the women’s 60kg category, seasoned champion Soheila Mansourian fought her way to bronze, overpowering Hong Kong’s representative in straight rounds after an earlier setback against China.
The men’s 85kg division saw Mohammadreza Rigi power past rivals from Colombia and Spain to reach the gold-medal bout. But against Egypt’s Wudan Al-Hussein, he had to settle for silver after a hard-fought contest.
Earlier in the Games, Shahin Bani-Tabrizi struck gold in taolu, meaning two of Iran’s three gold medals in Chengdu have now come from wushu.
