IRGC Navy attains self-sufficiency, will give crushing response to any threat: Commander

Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri

The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy reaffirms its unwavering stance on defending Iran's sovereignty, warning that it will give a decisive and firm response to any threat.

"The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy, relying on knowledge-based capacities and the abilities of domestic specialists, has reached a level of power that it will respond decisively and forcefully to any threat,” Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri said on Saturday.

He pointed to the strategic position of three Persian Gulf Iranian islands -- Abu Musa, the Greater and Lesser Tunbs – and emphasized that they will always remain an integral part of Iran’s territory.

The IRGC commander added that Iran maintains dominance over the strategic Strait of Hormuz through these islands, which are the entrance and exit routes of the Persian Gulf.

The Persian Gulf has 19 strategic islands and holds a unique position in Iran’s maritime security, Tangsiri said.

He noted that Iran has vast oil and gas resources in the Persian Gulf and is duty-bound to defend “this national wealth."

He said enemies have always sought to harm Iran and made efforts to dominate energy resources in the Persian Gulf but the Islamic Republic relies on its domestic capabilities and is no longer dependent on foreigners.

Iran will continue to move in the path of strength and progress and will not allow enemies to carry out the slightest act of aggression against the country’s maritime borders, Tangsiri pointed out.

He emphasized that the IRGC Navy plays a major role in maintaining security in the region, saying, “We are no longer dependent on any foreign power and are meeting all our defense requirements by relying on domestic capabilities.”

Iranian Armed Forces, including the IRGC and the country’s Army, have been continuously enhancing their military hardware and combat readiness in line with the directives of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The forces have vowed to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of the threats by the Iranian nation’s enemies.

Late in January, the IRGC naval forces successfully fired the Qaem and Almas missiles equipped with artificial intelligence by advanced Mohajer 6 and Ababil 5 drones, destroying mock enemy targets.
