With the reported approval of the sale of over $7.4 billion in weapons to Israel, the administration of US President Donald Trump has rescinded a Biden-era regulation that sought to ensure US-made weapons were not used in violation of international humanitarian law.

While the White House has not confirmed the news, two US officials and a source close to the administration have confirmed that White House National Security Adviser Michael Waltz rescinded National Security Memorandum-20.

All mention of the memorandum has been scrubbed from the White House website, with searches resulting in a “404 error.”

The former president, Joe Biden, signed NSM-20 in February 2024 in order to make sure that US weapons would not be used in violation of international law. The move was prompted by concerns over Israel’s actions during its genocidal campaign in Gaza.

The White House informed Congress earlier in February that it had approved the sale of $6.75 billion in bombs, guidance kits and fuses, in addition to $660 million in Hellfire missiles to Israel.

Furthermore, in order to bolster Israel’s arsenal, Trump has repealed the law that prohibited the sale of 2000-pound bombs to the regime.

Senator Chris Van Hollen, a prominent advocate for the memorandum, has condemned the “shameful” move to scrap the law.

“This is another clear example of Trump’s blatant indifference to American values.”

The Biden administration only withheld one shipment of 2000-pound bombs to Israel.

The US government has continued to provide critical military assistance to the Israeli regime throughout its campaign of genocide in Gaza.
