The Israeli regime’s housing and construction minister has called on prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to facilitate the illegal settling of one million Israelis in the occupied West Bank.

Speaking to an Israeli news site on Sunday, Yitzhak Goldknopf urged Netanyahu to “bring a million Jews to Judea and Samaria,” referring to the West Bank by its Israeli term.

He also called for Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip to be leveraged to ramp up the regime’s settlement construction activities.

Over 770,000 Israelis live in settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the West Bank and East al-Quds, according to the latest figures released by the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, a Palestinian Authority agency.

While all Israeli settlements are illegal under international law, the Tel Aviv regime keeps expanding them in blatant violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Less than two months ago, Goldknopf, who is the leader of the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism party, visited the border between the occupied lands and Gaza, where he backed an initiative to re-establish settlements in the besieged Palestinian territory.

Israel launched its brutal Gaza onslaught on October 7, 2023, after the Palestinian Hamas resistance group carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

However, more than months into the offensive, Israel has failed to achieve its declared objectives of finding captives held in Gaza and eliminating Hamas.

So far, the occupying regime has killed at least 46,565 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 109,660 others, in Gaza.
