At least three Israeli settlers have been killed in a retaliatory shooting operation in the northern part of the West Bank, as tensions have flared up in the occupied territory since the beginning of the Tel Aviv regime’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Eli Bin, head of the Israeli Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service, said six more people were injured in the attack near al-Funduq village, located east of Qalqilya, on Monday.

The Israeli military announced in a statement that troops are searching for the perpetrators of the operation, with roadblocks set up in the vicinity of the attack and a number of villages surrounded.

The army said gunmen opened fire at a bus and a number of vehicles. The attack was carried out near the illegal Kedumim settlement.

Hamas lauds ‘heroic’ response to Zionist enemy’s crimes

Meanwhile, the Gaza-based Hamas resistance movement has praised the “heroic” shooting operation in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

“The shooting operation that took place on Monday morning in the village of al-Funduq, east of Qalqilya, is a heroic response to the Zionist enemy’s ongoing crimes, the genocide of the people in Gaza, the regime’s plans to displace the people of the West Bank, as well as the violations by illegal settlers against the al-Aqsa Mosque compound and other holy sites,” Hamas said in a statement.

The statement added that the retaliatory operations send a clear message to the Zionist enemy that there are people in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and elsewhere in the occupied territories, who will not relinquish their rights, and that resistance will continue until the occupation is completely finished.

Hamas also called for stepped-up resistance operations across the occupied territories to undermine the occupiers’ security, and frustrate the malicious plans to further annex Palestinian lands and displace Palestinian people.

Since Israel unleashed a war on the besieged Gaza Strip in early October 2023, casualties have been rising in the West Bank as a result of intensified near-daily Israeli raids into villages and cities in the occupied territories.

At least 838 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or extremist Jewish settlers since the war began. More than 6,700 Palestinians have been wounded as well, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Israel's war on the Gaza Strip has killed at least 45,805 Palestinians, most of them women and children.
