The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, one of the last working hospitals in besieged northern Gaza, says Israeli snipers fired at patients and staff in the intensive care unit (ICU).

According to Doctor Hussam Abu Safiya, the snipers targeted the ICU “for the first time” on Monday.

He said that “all the hospital windows were hit.”

“The situation in the hospital is getting worse, and it will turn into a graveyard for everyone inside the hospital.”

“Anyone moving around the hospital wards was at risk of being hit, creating a very dangerous situation for patients and staff,” Safiya said, adding that the regime’s quadcopters were also firing at “anyone who moves in the courtyard of the hospital.”

Safiya said that it was “clear that the focus is on the hospital— its building, its surroundings, and anyone moving inside it.”

The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital reiterated an appeal for “international protection,” urging the World Health Organization (WHO) and the world community to “intervene urgently.”

Safiya said that staff and patients are enduring “difficult hours without electricity, oxygen or water.”

The WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, described the situation in the hospital as “simply appalling.”

In a message on X on Monday, he urged “for the protection of health care and for this hell to stop.”

“Hostilities around the hospital continue and recent attacks have further damaged the oxygen supply, generators, and broken windows and doors of the patients' rooms.”

Israel’s military has attacked Kamal Adwan Hospital more than 20 times in the past 10 days, according to the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, who said “several patients, medical personnel, and their companions” have been injured.

Israel is “routinely” targeting medical teams in the north of Gaza “to destroy the health system and impose intolerable living conditions on civilians while denying them access to life-saving care.”

The besieged population of northern Gaza have been facing starvation, displacement and annihilation amid relentless bombardment and suffocating restrictions on life-saving humanitarian aid for more than two months. .

Observers say what the Israeli regime is currently doing before the eyes of the world in the area is land grabs under the threat of extermination.
