Young Spanish lawmaker Jorge Pueyo says he is participating in a multi-day hunger strike in support of the besieged people of Palestine.

The 29-year-old said he joined the strike initiated by the Aragon Palestinian House and Jerusalem Association on Nov. 19 in his constituency—the Spanish autonomous region of Aragon.

He said at a press conference in parliament that he began his hunger strike Tuesday in solidarity with Palestine and will continue it through Friday.

"There are times in life and politics when words are not enough, and setting an example becomes important.”

The young lawmaker also called for Spain to sever diplomatic and trade ties with Israel, impose a full arms embargo on the Tel Aviv regime, and promote the visibility of the Palestinian cause.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the official recognition of the Palestinian state by the Council of Ministers in May.

Sánchez said at the time that his country “will thus join the more than 140 countries that already recognize Palestine as a state.”

Several other European countries, such as Ireland and Norway, followed suit in an attempt to seek an end to Israel’s war against Palestinians in Gaza.
