At least a dozen people have been killed when Israeli warplanes attacked multiple buildings in Lebanon’s southern coastal city of Tyre, sending up large clouds of black smoke.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that a strike on a road near the historic city, situated about 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of the capital Beirut, left “six dead and body parts” requiring identification as well as four wounded, while another attack left “six dead and four wounded” in the town of Maaraka on Monday.
Eight people were also killed in Israeli attacks on al-Nabi Shayth village in eastern Lebanon, according to the official National News Agency (NNA).
Elsewhere in the southern Lebanese town of Ghazieh, located 4 kilometers (2.4 miles) south of Saida, two people lost their lives in an Israeli airstrike targeting a building with many more trapped under the rubble.
Additionally, an Israeli air raid on the town of Hermel in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley killed one person and injured many others.
According to Lebanon’s official National News Agency, Israeli jets also struck a two-storey house, destroying it and leaving people missing under the rubble.
Several Israeli air strikes hit the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, in the Haret Hreik neighborhood, following a forced evacuation order for residents there.
The developments came one day after US envoy Amos Hochstein on Sunday threatened to withdraw from mediation efforts aimed at brokering a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon if the Tel Aviv regime does not accept the US proposal, according to Israeli media.
Since September 23, the Israeli army has been launching unprecedented air attacks on Lebanon in a dangerous escalation with Hezbollah resistance movement.
More than 3,600 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon, with over 15,300 others injured and more than a million displaced since the onset of hostilities on October 8, 2023, according to Lebanese health authorities.
