A Geneva-based rights group has found that Israel dropped US-made bombs on a tent camp for the displaced Palestinians outside a school in southern Gaza on Tuesday evening. The attack killed at least 32 people.
The deadly attack hit the gate of al-Awda school in the town of Abasan al-Kabira, east of the city of Khan Yunis. Eyewitnesses described the number of victims as “unimaginable.”
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said in a Wednesday statement that at least 32 people lost their lives and more than 50 others wounded.
The victims — a large number of whom children and women — were ”turned into body parts,” the group said.
“The missiles,” it said, “were launched towards a group of residents and displaced persons who have been worn down by repeated forced displacement.”
Euro-Med Monitor said the group has tracked US-made bombs at the site of the attack, after an examination of the remnants of the weapons.
The bomb, which the group has not identified, has repeatedly been used by the regime’s forces in several massacres in Gaza, according to the statement.
The deadly attack was condemned by Germany and France.
"People seeking shelter in schools getting killed is unacceptable," the German foreign ministry said in a statement on social media platform X. "The repeated attacks on schools by the Israeli army must stop and an investigation must come quickly."
Germany, the second-biggest weapons exporter to Israel, keeps supplying the regime with submarines, warships, vehicles and aircraft engines, as well as torpedoes.
France, Israel's another arms supplier, also condemned the deadly air raids on schools sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza, declaring such tactics “unacceptable."
“We call for these strikes to be fully investigated,” the French Foreign Ministry said.
Two-thirds of schools run by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza have been hit, some were bombed out, many severely damaged, since the regime launched its war on Gaza in early October, according to Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the agency.
"Schools have gone from safe places of education and hope for children to overcrowded shelters and often ending up a place of death & misery,” he posted on X.
Israel has attacked four schools in as many days as it has forced thousands of Palestinians to flee Khan Younis and Gaza City on July 1.
