Iranian security forces have dismantled a terrorist team with weapons and ammunition in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan.
Commander of East Azarbaijan Border Guard Mohammad Ahmadi told reporters on Friday that two members of the team were arrested in the Khoda Afarin border region.
He said the terrorists were plotting to carry out acts of sabotage inside the Islamic Republic amid recent violent foreign-backed riots.
The commander said a large arms cache was also confiscated.
He said the security forces captured two vehicles containing a weapon with a camera, four grenades, three remote-controlled explosive devices, a Kalashnikov rifle, a Colt, and advanced night-vision cameras.
Ahmadi said the terrorists were handed over to judicial officials.
In July, Iran's intelligence forces uncovered and dismantled a terrorist network in the northwestern province of West Azarbaijan. The band was affiliated with separatist operatives.
At the time, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry said in a statement that its forces identified and arrested all 10 members of the network in an operation in cooperation with Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada Base of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force as well as the Justice Ministry’s provincial office.
