An ex-adviser to former US President Donald Trump has claimed that senior Trumpists had been subjected to mass raids by the FBI "Gestapo".

Steve Bannon, a right-wing ideologue, claimed on Friday that the FBI had conducted raids on 35 Trump loyalists on the same day he was charged.

Trump's former adviser turned himself into law enforcement authorities at Manhattan Criminal Court for arraignment on Thursday.

“Senior members of MAGA [Make America Great Again], Republican supporters of Donald Trump” were the targets of the FBI raids, Bannon said in an interview on the Charlie Kirk Show on Friday.

Bannon added in the interview with the pro-rightwing show that the “jackbooted Gestapo” intentionally made a “big display of this.”

The onetime top adviser of Trump has been described in a recent court case against him as the “architect” of a fraud scheme.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg told reporters on Thursday that Bannon wanted to defraud donors who gave money to construct a wall on the US-Mexico border.

Bragg said the fundraising scheme designed by Bannon, who had received a pardon from Trump in January 2021 for federal charges filed against him in relation to the appropriation of wall funds, had impacted Manhattan residents.

“We then began investigating and determined that Mr. Bannon must be held accountable in this jurisdiction, the jurisdiction of New York State, for his conduct as the architect of this scheme, which impacted hundreds of Manhattan residents,” Bragg asserted.

Bannon, who has pleaded not guilty to the border wall scam charges, was ordered to surrender his passports to authorities.
