Poland battles to help Ukrainian refugees

Robert Carter
Press TV, Lublin

As the conflict in Ukraine intensifies, the flood of refugees fleeing west continues to grow. So far, Poland has taken the most with over one million desperate civilians already inside its borders.

Lublin, a city just a few hours from the border is one of the first to be affected by the crisis.

We're here at one of the main train stations in Lublin where refugees are pouring in day by day. Here they are fed, watered, given a chance to rest before being moved on to a larger city inside Poland, such as the capital Warsaw, where they can remain or locals have been offering their own homes as accommodation to house some of these refugees during this difficult time.

As more desperate souls pile in to Lublin Station, Polish volunteers have rallied to help their distressed neighbors.

Poland is playing a key role in the humanitarian fight but has also made offer to lend fighter aircraft to help Ukraine fight the Russians. A move which the US has rejected. If the war escalates any further, plans of a swift return home may never materialize.
