Scholars from across the monotheistic religions are here to discuss the character of a man who is hailed as the guarantor of regional security; Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani. Well known as the spearhead of the fight against terrorism, Soleimani was assassinated in a US air raid in Iraq in January 2020. Religious leaders here regret his death as a huge loss for the region.

General Soleimani holds a reputation for eradicating Daesh terrorists in Iraq in 2017. He also led major operations in Syria that led to the recapturing of key areas from the terror group. His role in liberating Assyrian-populated areas in Syria and Iraq from the rule of Daesh is praised as a service to non-Muslim religious communities.

Over the past days, Iran has been holding different events in honor of Gen. Soleimani and has placed his pictures on city billboards as a show of respect. The Islamic Republic calls him martyr Soleimani and refers to him as a national hero and the guarantor of regional security.

Scholars from different religions here say the eradication of Daesh by General Soleimani was a big favor to all religious groups, since it created a safer atmosphere for them to practice their faiths away from extremist threats. At the same time, they interpret the General's assassination as an attempt by the US to resurrect the terrorists.
