Iran have kick-started their title defense with an 8-6 win over Paraguay in group B of the 2021 Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup in Dubai.
The defending champions who were 3-nil down after the first 12 minutes, came to life in the second period by scoring a flurry of four goals. Then Mohammad Ali Mokhtari put Iran in front for the first time with a tremendous acrobatic effort, before Paraguay responded in the same style, with the match heading into final time-frame 5-4 in favor of Iran.
The goal fest continued in the third, and Abbas Hashem-pour’s men added three more to their tally while conceding two. Nonetheless they got away winners at 8-6. Iran will next meet Japan on Wednesday and afterwards, take on Russia on Thursday.
