Israeli forces have detained 17 Palestinians, including a university lecturer, in a series of overnight raids across the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian official news agency Wafa reported on Monday that the regime forces abducted Huthayfa Jabari, a professor at al-Khalil University, in southern West Bank.

Additionally, a large number of Israeli troops rounded up five Palestinian residents, including two former prisoners, after storming their houses in the town of Ni'lin, which is located west of Ramallah. To the north of Ramallah, undercover Israeli agents infiltrated into the Jalazone refugee camp and kidnapped four others, including a father and his two sons. Two others were detained during separate raids in Doha town and the Dheisheh refugee camp, west and south of Bethlehem, respectively.

In another incident, soldiers along with military vehicles forced their way into the Balata refugee camp, east of the city of Nablus, where they detained two more Palestinians. Separately, Israeli troops forcibly took away two residents after storming East al-Quds’ Ras al-Amoud and Isawiyya neighborhoods. They also stormed al-Tur neighborhood in west al- Quds, where they took another Palestinian into custody.

Israeli authorities have threatened to launch a massive arrest campaign if Palestinian youths do not stop protests against Israel’s settlement expansion in the occupied territories. Much of the international community regards the settler units as illegal.

The Israeli military frequently carries out wide-ranging arrest campaigns across the West Bank under the pretext of searching for ‘wanted’ Palestinians.

More than 7,000 Palestinians are reportedly held in Israeli jails. Hundreds have been incarcerated under the practice of administrative detention, which allows holding Palestinian inmates in Israeli prisons without trial or charge. Some Palestinian prisoners have even been held in administrative detention for up to eleven years.
