A group of anti-Donald Trump Republicans has decided to endorse a number of Democratic lawmakers facing tough races GOP candidates in the 2022 midterm elections, in an attempt to stop their own party from recapturing Congress, according to a report.
The GOP officials are upset that most elected Republicans now support former President Donald Trump's claims that the 2020 election was stolen by the Democratic Party and their powerful allies in the Washington establishment.
The officials told Reuters they are also supporting vulnerable Republicans, including Representative Liz Cheney, who have opposed Trump's policies and rejected his voter fraud claims.
Trump, who believes that the election was rigged by the US establishment in favor of Biden, has said that the 2020 presidential election was “the greatest Election Hoax in history.”
According to recent surveys, most Republicans still believe that the election was stolen from the former president, and Trump is the legitimate president of the United States.
Trump’s supporters stormed the US Capitol in the hope of preventing lawmakers from certifying Biden's victory, thus overturning the outcome of the 2020 presidential election but to no avail.
The Renew America Movement (RAM), formed by centrist Republicans after Trump’s supporters stormed Congress on January 6, concedes that Trump and his claims now have an iron grip on the Republican Party.
According to a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, 30 percent of American adults agreed that the "2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump." That included 61 percent of Republicans, 19 percent of independents, and 10 percent of Democrats.
Meanwhile, Trump has endorsed numerous primary candidates challenging Republican lawmakers who voted to impeach him on a charge of inciting insurrection ahead of the deadly January 6 protest march on the Capitol.
The anti-Trump alliance RAM said supporting moderate candidates is vital to safeguard what they call American democracy.
"With the mounting threats to our democracy and Constitution, we need people who work proactively to lead their party and the country away from the political extremes," Joel Searby, the group's national political director, told Reuters.
The officials said RAM will back moderate Democrats, nine moderate Republicans and one independent running for the House of Representatives and Senate in the November 2022 elections.
The anti-Trump Republicans are helping Democrats at a time when they have a narrow majority in the House, while the Senate is tied 50-50. Democrats are increasingly nervous about losing both house of Congress next year to the Republicans.
Pulitzer Prize-winner American investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald has revealed in a recent article that an axis of the CIA, Big Tech and the DNC-allied wing of the corporate media spread an absolute lie in the weeks before the 2020 presidential election.
“Numerous examples of brute and dangerous censorship have emerged: the destruction by Big Tech monopolies of Parler at the behest of Democratic politicians at the time that it was the most-downloaded app in the country; the banning of the sitting president from social media; and the increasingly explicit threats from elected officials in the majority party of legal and regulatory reprisals in the event that tech platforms do not censor more in accordance with their demands,” Greenwald wrote.
“But the most severe episode of all was the joint campaign — in the weeks before the 2020 election — by the CIA, Big Tech, the liberal wing of the corporate media and the Democratic Party to censor and suppress a series of major reports about then-presidential frontrunner Joe Biden,” he added.
