Iran’s volleyball team have started their Olympic campaign with a victory, beating Pool A rivals Poland in a 5-set thriller.
Iran started poorly and fell to a 25-18 loss in the opener, but significantly improved in the 2nd and managed to even the score with a 25 to 22 win, before taking a 2-sets to 1 lead with another 25-22 win. Team Iran were caught lacking in the 4th, which saw the Poles take the contest to a decider. It was a neck and neck fight in the 5th, but the Asian powerhouse managed to pull themselves together and edge out a 23-21 win against the world champions.
