Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis says he has had no discussions with  former President Donald Trump about the US 2024 presidential election.

"I haven't had any discussions with anybody about anything beyond what we are doing now because, you know, we are putting a lot of points on the board, and we are really going on offense, moving the ball forward," the Republican governor, a staunch Trump ally himself, said on Fox News’, when asked if he has discussed the issue with Trump.

DeSantis is potentially at the top of the list of possible candidates within the Republican Party for the 2024 race.

He has been promoting his response to the coronavirus pandemic in the Sunshine State.

"I have a great state, a big state," DeSantis said. "We've got a lot on our plates here. We take it one day at a time and try to achieve things for the people of Florida."

Trump has praised the governor, saying he would consider him as a running mate.

“A lot of people like that — I'm just saying what I read and what you read, they love that ticket,” Trump said on Fox Business, referencing DeSantis’s 2018 race. “But certainly, Ron would be considered. He's a great guy.”

The governor, who is running for reelection in 2022, said earlier this month during an address to the Allegheny County GOP's annual Lincoln Day Dinner in Pennsylvania that he has “only begun to fight."

In a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) straw poll in Orlando earlier this year, DeSantis came in second place behind Trump to run for president in 2024, when the GOP hopes to take power back from President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.

After long-shot efforts to challenge Biden's victory in the 2020 presidential race, Trump lost the battle and immediately launched a reelection campaign.
