Principlist lawmaker Alireza Zakani represents the city of Qom in Iran’s 11th Parliament (Majlis). He was also a representative of the capital, Tehran, in three previous parliaments.

Zakani headed the parliamentary committee that was tasked with examining a 2015 nuclear deal reached between Tehran and six major world states in 2015.

The lawmaker sought to run for president in 2013 and 2017. However, he was disqualified by the Constitutional Council from joining both elections.

Born in 1965 in Tehran, Alireza Zakani holds a Ph.D. in nuclear medicine.

‘An administration present in the field against poverty, corruption’

Speaking to reporters after signing up for the June 18 presidential election, Zakani praised Iran’s points of strength, including its great nation and leadership, its rich resources, and its geopolitical significance.

He said the root cause of the country’s problems is the administration’s inefficient management, especially in the economic sector.

Justice, independence, freedom, and progress can be achieved in light of spirituality and rationality, Zakani said.

Instead of remote management, he added, the people want “presence in the field” against poverty, corruption, and discrimination.
