A US-based analyst hails the level of the Palestinian unity that the Israeli regime is facing during its weeks-old aggression against the Palestinian territories as unprecedented.
“There are certain things this time around that are different. And the main difference is that we see the unity amongst all Palestinians,” Rania Masri, human rights advocate and political analyst, told Press TV’s The Debate program on Monday from Raleigh, North Carolina.
She said the state of solidarity had, this time, spread uniformly throughout the entire Palestinian territories, whether across the Israeli-blockaded Gaza Strip, the Tel Aviv-occupied West Bank, or even among the Palestinians living within the broader borders that demarcated Palestine before it was invaded by the Israeli regime in 1948.
This unity is “what is catching the apartheid Israeli regime off guard,” Masri said.
Israel “had thought it could divide Palestinians through checkpoints, through guns, through walls,” the expert said, adding, “But what is very clear is that the Palestinian cry for liberation cannot be divided by Zionism.”
The regime intensified its attacks against Gaza last Monday after the territory rose in protest against its violations towards Palestinians in the West Bank, especially the holy city of al-Quds.
The violations have seen Israeli forces and illegal settlers attacking Palestinian worshipers and protesters for weeks on end. The forces once attacked thousands of Palestinian worshipers on the al-Aqsa Mosque’s compound in al-Quds’ Old City and tried to dispose of Palestinians from the city’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood on another occasion.
The Israeli atrocities have so far killed a total of 212 people, including 61 children and 36 women, in Gaza and scores of others in the West Bank.
Masri’s remarks concerning the increase in the state of unity among Palestinians came after the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a coalition of Palestinian armed groups in the West Bank, announced a decision to rise in protest across the occupied territory in support of Gaza.
The West Bank-based groups said they had been absent from the battle against the occupying regime for long, but were now springing back into action. They also warned the Israeli regime about the dire consequence of their actions.
The analyst, meanwhile, regretted the US’s sustained and even ramped up support for Israeli despite its engagement in the brutalities and bloodletting. She cited US President Joe Biden as claiming that the Israeli attacks “are not an overreaction.”
This is while, Masri noted, “Israel does not have the legal right to defend itself or exist” in the first place, because Tel Aviv is an occupying regime and because “apartheid has no right to exist.”
Describing the illegal state of the regime, the expert recalled that every Israeli city or village has been built upon a destroyed Palestinian city or village.
Also addressing The Debate from New York, Joe Catron of the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, called Israel, the US’s “Zionist settler colonial proxy.”
He underlined that successive US administration have been providing unquestioning support for Israel “regardless of their party.”
“There’s no confronting one without challenging the other” because the two “are absolutely linked,” he said of Washington and Tel Aviv’s relationship.
Remarking on the possible means of confronting the Israeli regime amid the US administration’s intransigent support for it, Masri advised that the countries of the world start sanctioning Tel Aviv and effecting changes in their economic and diplomatic ties with the regime.
Catron also urged activists inside the US to take on the American imperialist system and its protection of Israel, saying they should be taking action as the ones living “in the belly of the beast.”
