Wout van Aert has won a stunning sprint finish in stage five of the Tour de France, while Adam Yates clinched the leader’s Yellow Jersey after Julian Alaphilippe was hit with a time penalty.

The Jumbo-Visma rider timed his attack to perfection in a technical final Kilometre, pipping Dutchman Grega Bole to the line by half a wheel after four hours, 21 minutes and 22 seconds to continue his team’s dominance of the first week of the Tour.

Sam Bennett rounded off the top three. That's while, Yates took over the Yellow Jersey after former leader Alaphilippe was handed a 20-second time penalty for taking a drink bottle inside the closing kilometres of the stage that saw him demoted to 16th in the standings.

Stage six is currently running.
