6 shot, 1 fatally in shooting outside restaurant in Chicago

One person is dead and five others wounded in a shooting outside a restaurant in the US state of Illinois.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, the six victims of the shooting on Chicago's South Side were taken to a hospital Sunday afternoon.

At least four of those injured are said to be in critical condition.

The man who died suffered a gunshot wound when someone inside a white-colored SUV drove up and fired shots.

He was dining outdoors under a tent at Lumes Pancake House in Morgan Park, when he was attacked.

American detectives were reportedly on the scene to investigate the deadly incident.

"It's scary," said Martin Puente, a restaurant employee. "I've never seen this before."

The victim died on the scene and no one was in custody.

America has seen a week of violence after a white police officer shot Jacob Blake, a Black man, in the back seven times in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last Sunday.
