Who is Kong Tsang-ga and why is he important?

Back in December 2019, Nury Vittachi, a journalist working in Hong Kong, wrote an article for the Hong Kong Standard that a number of local people were upset that one of the most widely quoted “Hong Kong Chinese” voices calling for sanctions against Hong Kong in the international media was really “a white American guy” in yellowface.

The pseudonymous Kong has subsequently been identified as Brian Kern, an American teacher in Hong Kong with ties to the CIA surrogate NED (National Endowment for Democracy) a US government-funded operation. Kern has been seen in a series of videos and photos giving apparent instructions to young Hong Kong rioters.

Posing as Kong Tsang-ga, Kern became a ubiquitous spokesperson for the anti-China, pro-Anglo-American Hong Kong protesters with statements of his published not just in the English media, from the New York Times to CNN to the Guardian, but in European media like France24 and Deutsch Welle. He was also a frequent contributor to the rabidly pro-protester Hong Kong Free Press website, which highlighted his articles and distributed his self-published books to people who donated money.

According to Vittachi, "Kong" was also an active presence at the protests, reporting live on Twitter to 32,000 followers. He called on the US to hit Hong Kong with economic sanctions and requested cash for the 612 fund which paid lawyers of radical protesters charged with rioting, assault, vandalism, and arson.

Now that "Kong's" cover has been blown it is reported that he has fled Hong Kong because of “threats” directed against him. Still using his pseudonym Kern admits in a post on the Hong Kong Free Press website on Monday, July 10, that “They reached the point where I decided it was best to leave Hong Kong,” he writes. No details or evidence about the "threats" are provided.

The whole episode points to the complicity of the US in the Hong Kong protests and illustrates why the recently promulgated Hong Kong National Security Law is so necessary and justified. The hysterical reaction of the Anglophone 5-Eyes spy network to the long-overdue law shows that they are feeling the heat and can no longer act with impunity to destabilize China through a color revolution in Hong Kong. Their only recourse is to strike back in anger at their loss of an invaluable staging ground to attack China from within.
