World must reject US hegemony in all its forms: Analyst

The world must take notice of the racist policy prevalent in the United States and reject US hegemony in all its forms, a political commentator has said. 

Charles Dunaway contrasted US President Donald Trump’s responses to separate protest rallies by American citizens, one staged by unarmed African-Americans and the other by armed White people, to show the typical racism in Trump comments.

Unarmed African-American protesters took to the streets of Minneapolis where George Floyd was killed on Monday to protest the long history of brutality against the black people living in the city.

“This week there has been a spontaneous protest by unarmed African-Americans against the long history of police brutality in Minneapolis culminating in the murder of George Floyd,” Dunaway said.

He said Trump wanted to incite violence against African-Americans, directing police officers to shoot the black “thugs”.   

“According to Trump those protesters are thugs and local authorities should get tough and shoot them down if necessary,” Dunaway said.

Dunaway contrasted Trump's response to the Minneapolis protest to his response to another protest which was held by White people opposed to stay-at-home orders in Michigan’s state Capitol in Lansing.

People have held protest rallies across the United States against the handling of the coronavirus pandemic by their local governments.

“Two weeks ago we had heavily armed white people protesting the inconvenience of stay-at-home orders and blocking access to the Michigan state capital,” Dunaway noted.

Dunaway said in contrast to Trump's response to the Black people’s protest in which he incited police to use violence, Trump's response to the White people’s protest was to urge the governor to engage in dialog with the "very good people".

“The governor of Michigan should give a little and put out the fire. These are very good people; but, they are angry. They want their lives back again safely.  See them, talk to them. Make a deal,” Trump said as quoted by Dunaway.

He said the stark contrast between the two responses of Trump, calling one groups "thugs" and the other "good people", was indicative of his racist mentality.

“No talk of making a deal with the citizens of Minneapolis to prosecute police officers who kill African Americans in cold blood. They apparently have no right to be angry. They can’t get their lives back again because the police have snuffed them out. Trump doesn’t think their good people he thinks they’re thugs. It is exactly this attitude that caused the death of George Floyd and many others, “ he inferred.

Dunaway said Trump’s contrasting responses to the demonstrations of the two was “typical of the authoritarian and racist nature of his administration and many of his followers.”

The American political commentator said a racist president was not qualified to lead the community and the US should not claim moral high ground. “How can the US claim the moral high ground in any dispute when its president is so overtly racist? It cannot. The world must take notice and reject US hegemony in all its forms.”
