Gazans mark international day of persons with disabilities

Palestinians held rallies in front of UN high commissioner office in the besieged Gaza Strip on Monday, to mark international day of persons with disabilities including those injured during Israel’s crackdown. The rallies aim to draw attention to the difficult living conditions of disabled people in the besieged enclave and call on international community to end the Israeli violations against Palestinians.

The percentage of people with disabilities increased in Gaza Strip in 2018 along with the beginning of the weekly rallies under the name of March of Return on the enclave. Thousands of Palestinians became disabled living a deteriorating life condition, due to Israeli airstrikes and tank shells that targeted civilians during Israeli assaults on Gaza and the violations against protesters.

Israel has also prevented disabled people from going abroad to receive proper treatment and getting needed medical care. The disabled in Gaza called upon decision-makers and the international community to particularly ensure their rights of health, education and employment.

Gaza has been under a strict Israeli blockade since 2007 and went through three devastating Israeli wars that left thousands of people dead and injured many more.

On the International Day of persons with disabilities, Gazans are reviving their pain. Israel has injured thousands of Gazans, and the number of disabled people continues to increase as long as Israel keeps its inhuman violations against Palestinians.
