Albania has been hit by the most powerful earthquake ever in the country’s history. The devastating tremor, which struck at around 4 am local time, was recorded as a 6.4 magnitude quake.
So far, 21 casualties have been confirmed and over 300 left injured. The epicenter of the quake was located at the port city of Durres, just 13 miles from the capital Tirana.
Following the quake, Albania’s neighbors, Italy, Greece and Kosovo, have begun assisting with the recovery operation, while other European leaders have also offered their assistance. The streets can be cleaned and broken buildings rebuilt but the loss of loved ones can never be replaced.
