US President Donald Trump has warned Americans that they "have no choice" but to vote for him, claiming that the US economy will totally collapse if he does not win reelection in 2020.

Trump made the statement at a campaign rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Thursday night.

The American head of state, boasting about the economy's performance during his tenure in the White House, claimed that the US had the best economy in the world right now.

He later predicted that the US markets would crash if he were to lose his reelection bid in 2020 to the Democrats.

"The bottom line is, I know you like me, and this room is a love fest, I know that, but you have no choice but to vote for me, because...everything's gonna be down the tubes," Trump said. "So whether you love me or hate me, you gotta vote for me.”

Earlier in the day, Trump also claimed in New Jersey that the US economic growth would end if the country elected a Democrat to the White House next year.

"Frankly if for some reason that happened in the 2020 election, you'll see this economy go down the tubes. I will tell you that right now," he said.

Trump also accused the mainstream American media of trying to harm the economy and hurt his reelection prospects.

"The problem they have is that the economy is way too strong and we will soon be winning big on Trade, and everyone knows that, including China," Trump wrote in a tweet.

Trump’s comments come amid an escalating trade war between Washington and Beijing and as the US stock markets suffer steep declines.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 800 points on Wednesday, its worst slide of 2019.

New poll shows Trump losing to Dems

Meanwhile, a Fox News poll showed on Thursday that Trump was losing head-to-head matchups against four of the top Democratic presidential primary contenders.

The survey found Trump has 39 percent support among registered voters in head-to-head matchups against Senators Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren.

The poll found Sanders defeating the incumbent with 48 percent, Warren winning with 45 percent and Harris with 46 percent support.

Former US Vice President Joe Biden also thrashed Trump in the theoretical matchup with 50 percent support among those surveyed.

The Fox News poll was conducted from August 11 to 13 among 1,013 registered voters on landlines and cell phones. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percent for all registered voters, and 4.5 percent for Democratic primary voters.
