Kashmir suffers more casualties
The situation in the Indian-controlled Kashmir remains tense and concerns are already rising that the region would sooner or later see a surge in tensions. Indian forces this week announced that they had killed a top Kashmiri commander and his comrade. They described the killing of Abu Dujana and Arif Nabi of the Lashkar-e-Taiba group as a great achievement. The deaths of Abu Dujana and Arif Nabi drew thousands to their funeral procession. And with that, fears are rising that anger is already boiling to new levels among the Kashmiris toward what now looks like to the world as a campaign of suppression by India.
US senator: Let them die in that part of the world
North Korea’s second ICBM launch was followed by a frenzy of military and political activities by the US and its allies in the region. While Congress slapped Pyongyang with fresh sanctions, Washington and Seoul immediately conducted a joint military exercise. Senator Lindsey Graham’s speaking of mass casualties raise the question as to whether the world should be expecting yet another nuclear strike by the US. Let’s not forget that America was among the several countries that did not sign the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons last month.
