Israel’s killing of Jordanian deliberate, barbaric and unjustified: Amman

Amman says that Israeli forces’ killing of a Jordanian national in East Jerusalem al-Quds was a “deliberate, barbaric and unjustified" act.

Israel claims that the 28-year-old was killed on Friday by police after he attempted to stab a policewoman.

On Saturday, a spokeswoman for the Jordanian foreign ministry denounced "the barbaric act of the army of the Israeli occupation, whose premeditated shooting of the Jordanian Saeed Amro... killed him on the spot."

"Amro was part of a group of tourists who had entered the Palestinian territories on Thursday to visit al-Quds," added the spokeswoman.

Israeli police said that the incident occurred after they tried to check if Amro (seen below) had Palestinian papers.

She noted Jordan does not accept Tel Aviv’s claims that Amro was attempting a stabbing attack, particularly because of a statement by the police which said no Israeli security personnel were injured in the incident.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry will also be closely monitoring Tel Aviv’s investigations into Amro’s death and will arrange to have his body returned to his relatives in Jordan, said the spokeswoman.

The occupied Palestinian territories have witnessed new tensions ever since Israeli forces imposed restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem al-Quds in August 2015.

More than 240 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces in the tensions since the beginning of last October.
