Young Iranian Greco-Roman grabblers shine in Asian Cadet Championship

The national Iranian cadet Greco-Roman wrestling team has been crowned as the champion of the 2016 Cadet Asian Championship in Chinese Taipei.

On Sunday, Hassan Forouzandeh won the yellow metal after overcoming Kumar Sunil of India 6-1 in the final bout of the Greco-Roman 85-kilogram weight category.

The Iranian cadet Greco-Roman outfit stood on top of the podium with a total of eight medals: six gold, one silver and one bronze. The team racked up 83 points.

India finished in the second place with nine medals: three silver and six bronze, and 74 points.

Kazakhstan snatched seven medals: two gold, two silver and three bronze, having collected 70 points to occupy the third spot.

Additionally, in the men's 50-kilogram freestyle, Amir Parasteh got the better of Japan’s Kaito Morikawa in the final contest to give the Islamic Republic of Iran another gold medal of the tournament.

Abolfazl Aramideh also claimed a bronze medal in the 42-kilogram weight section.

The national Iranian cadet freestyle wrestling squad finished third in the Asian championships, having collected four gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal and an overall of 75 points.

The Kazakhs were named the top-ranked cadet freestyle team in Asia with 82 points. Indians garnered 78 points to claim the second position.

The 2016 Cadet Asian Championship started in Taichung, Chinese Taipei, on July 7 and concluded on July 10.
