Iranian referee Alireza Faghani together with linesmen Reza Sokhandan and Mohammad Reza Mansouri will officiate at the forthcoming men's soccer competitions of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
On Monday, the Referees Committee of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) appointed Faghani and the two other Iranians to referee at the prestigious sporting event.
The committee has selected 88 referees and assistant referees from more than 40 countries to officiate men’s and women’s football matches at Rio 2016 Olympics.
The men’s competitions will see 18 referees and 32 assistant referees; while 14 referees and 24 assistant referees will be on duty for women’s fixtures.
The football tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics is scheduled to be held from 3 to 20 August.
Matches will also be played in Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Salvador, Sao Paulo, and Manaus in addition to the Olympic host city of Rio de Janeiro.
