US Secretary of State John Kerry’s criticism of the US presidential candidates and calling their race “embarrassing” is ironical as the whole American foreign policy he represents is an embarrassment, says an American political commentator.
Don DeBar made the comments in an interview with Press TV over Kerry’s remarks denouncing the current state of the presidential race in America.
“Frankly he should also be embarrassed over US foreign policy which he is the minister of,” DeBar said Wednesday.
Washington’s “our way or highway” rhetoric and its use of military force to forward its agenda is a source of embarrassment for the US, the New York-based radio host added.
Another embarrassing aspect of Washington’s policy is that it insists that “US business should have a primary position in exploiting the resources of the rest of the planet,” he added.
“And this position at the summit should be completely and totally unchallenged, otherwise you will face the wrath of the US military,” DeBar continued.
In his closing comments, the analyst said indeed it was humiliating for the US government to adopt such policies and allow people like Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton or leading Republican candidates Donald Trump and Senator Ted Cruz of Texas run for the White House.
Kerry’s Tuesday comments were echoed by President Barack Obama, who specifically accused leading Republican candidates of damaging Washington’s reputation abroad.
“I'm getting questions constantly from foreign leaders about some of the wackier suggestions that are being made,” Obama said Tuesday at the White House briefing room. “I have to emphasize that it's not just Trump's proposals. You are also hearing concerns about Cruz's proposals, which in some ways are just as draconian when it comes to immigration.”
Trump has raised eyebrows by offering to deport millions of immigrants from America and prevent Muslims from entering the country.
Cruz, his most serious rival, has also promised to round up and forcefully deport millions of undocumented immigrants with the help of law enforcement agencies.
According to White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, the 2016 race has negatively affected meetings with foreign leaders, who are intent on hearing Obama or Kerry explain the political battle.
